Austin Rock Gym is a climbing gym in Austin that offers climbing walls and bouldering at two locations. The gym provides powerhouse and yoga workshops and classes for experts and beginners as well as fitness classes for climbing. In addition, lessons are offered for those in need as well as full service outdoor rock trips. The founder of the gym is a certified member of Professional Climbing Instructors' Association (PCIA) and the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) among others.
I visited from Boulder, and it's great that there is a bouldering gym in Austin. As opposed to other reviews, I found the route setting to be fine - there would often be transitions in climbing styles on the same problem, though. For example, some powerful moves followed by technical crimping or vice-versa. Some people might not like that change in flow, but I rather liked it. For me though, the reason I'm giving five stars is because I found the staff to be super friendly. I brought a lot of kiddos with me one day, and they were very patient fitting and changing shoes multiple times. You can tell the people here really enjoy climbing. Climb on.
The setting is much much better than at the other gyms. It may be smaller but it's a gym that will make you an overall better climber. The folks are friendly and the staff is unparalleled.
This place was so awesome delicious egg rolls fresh sushi I'm definitely going back best restaurant in San Antonio!!

This review is long overdue. I used to workout here before moving away from Austin, TX. I have to say, this was probably the best thing for me to motivate getting into weight lifting. The vibe is laid back and not obnoxious as some "Big Box" gyms. Wasn't the prettiest place in terms of aesthetics, but that's OK with me. Pretty artwork on the walls and fancy plasma screens don't make you stronger. The best part was it pushed hard for getting strong and the other guys there were very motivating to push hard. If you are looking to start getting strong, look here first. They will give you all of the tools to do so if you really want it.
Awesome gym! Awesome staff! A great place to work off a work day's frustrations. Hardcore gym as well as an air conditioned part. Clean, well equipped, and reasonable.
Owners are great former military guys and open to new ideas while expanding their already great gym. It's open 24/7 and usually kept pretty clean with rarely any broken equipment. Great atmosphere and helpful people. Doesn't matter how strong you are this place will push you to the limits.

Have been training at this gym for almost 3 years now! Great facility, great trainers and coaches. The clientele is top notch as well. All in all I feel like it's my home away from home and that I am part of a family there!
Excellent gym, huge space, great instructors, very reasonable pricing, great people all around! I've really enjoyed my last 6 months here and couldn't be happier with the results. I just signed up for another year recently and look forward to working out here for a long time to come. Highly recommend!
Amazing instructors and classes throughout the day. I've been taking personal training classes with Kyle and he has really focused on helping me get to where I want to be. Classes are never too big and the numerous styles taught throughout the day gives you numerous options for your personal fitness/training goals. I highly recommend if you are looking for a new gym that caters to all levels and doesn't make you feel awkward because you are a newbie.

Expert, motivating coaching in great classes. Expect to be surprised at what you can achieve with the varied programming- pushing sleds, carrying kettle bells, lifting atlas stones and running with sandbags. We train heavy weight in classic lifts - bench, squat, press, cleans. Or we'll drag tires around the block. There is no downtime. I immediately lost weight and got stronger both overall and functionally; expect to be treated like an athlete from day one and be around other inspiring creative motivated athletes. Set a PR in squat after six weeks. Amazed at the results of consistent diligent effort. Let the coaches at Grit come up with your programming, motivate you and challenge your preconceived limits, and you will reap the rewards of your efforts.
Empowering young women and men to use their strength and be fit ... It takes Grit. The youth camps organized by Grit are empowering and positive. My kids have a positive view of personal strength and fitness thanks to Stephanie and her crew.
I enrolled in the Women's Program here about two months ago and I absolutely love it! We do hard work here; physically and often mentally as well. This helps translate to "real life" in so many ways. I love the philosophy of putting in the hard and gritty work in the gym (without complaint) so you build up those skill and later have them to tap into when things get difficult outside of the gym. You know, as life does. The gym is not cliquish at all like so many other gyms, and there is a real sense of community here. Stephanie, the owner, takes the time to personally meet and get to know everyone who steps foot in her gym, even if you may not take her classes directly. It is a very welcoming space. Cold brew and beer on tap don't hurt either! :)
